Stop Closing Background Apps: Why You’re Actually Hurting Your Battery Life

It’s a habit most of us have: double-tapping the home button or swiping up and clearing all those open apps to "save battery" and "speed up the phone." It feels satisfying, right? Well, science and the engineers at Apple and Google have a different story to tell.
The Memory Myth
On a computer, having many programs open can slow it down. But smartphones are designed differently. When you "leave" an app, it doesn't keep running at full speed; it enters a "frozen" state (cached) where it consumes zero CPU power and almost no battery.
Why Closing Apps Actually Drains Battery:
The Restart Cost: When you force-close an app and then reopen it, your phone has to load every single file and piece of data back into the RAM from the storage. This takes more energy than simply "waking it up" from its frozen state.
CPU Spikes: Constant closing and opening causes the processor to work harder, which generates heat and drains the battery faster in the long run.
Smart Management: Modern operating systems (iOS and Android) are experts at managing memory. If they need more RAM for a game, they will automatically close old apps for you. You don't need to do it manually!
When SHOULD you close an app?
Only if it’s frozen, glitching, or if it’s an app that is actively using GPS/Navigation in the background when you don't need it.
The Verdict:
If you want your battery to last longer, leave the "App Switcher" alone. Let your phone do its job while you enjoy a smoother, faster experience!
TileTechZone Tip: Want to actually save battery? Lower your screen brightness or turn off "Background App Refresh" for specific apps in your settings instead of closing them!
