Is Someone Watching? How to Stop Apps from Using Your Camera Without Permission
We’ve all felt that "creepy" sensation that our phone is watching us. Whether it’s a glitch or a malicious app, unauthorized camera access is a serious privacy threat. Here is how to take back control of your smartphone's eyes.
The Red Flags
The "Green Dot": On modern iOS and Android versions, a small green dot (or light) appears at the top of your screen whenever the camera is active. If you see it and you aren't taking a photo, someone else might be.
Battery Drain: Is your phone getting hot or losing battery faster than usual? Background camera usage is a huge power hog.
How to Protect Yourself:
App Permissions Audit: Go to your settings and check which apps have "Always" or "While Using" access to your camera. If a "Calculator" app wants your camera, deny it immediately.
Use Privacy Indicators: If you have an older Android, download apps like "Access Dots" to get the green/orange light notifications.
Physical Covers: Sometimes, low-tech is best. A small camera slider or even a sticker can give you 100% peace of mind.
